“Stephen, you speak in complete sentences. You should be in sales.” And with those inspiring and morale boosting words, Stephen’s career in sales began.
10 years and two sales training courses later, he became the EMEA Sales Director for Mizuno, the third largest sport company in the world..
In 1992 he founded his own sales training business and started his ongoing research into the science and practice of sales and influence.
That research has led him into becoming an expert in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) which he studied with Dr Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder, who trained Tony Robbins, and hypnosis with Paul Mckenna.
He studied behavioural and organisational psychology at the University of Manchester Insituute of Science and Technology (UMIST), all with the purpose of understanding human motivation and decision making.
He has conducted in-depth research with more than 1,000 high-performing, identifying the common behaviours and beliefs that they all share.
All of which is the basis for his unique sales methodologies.
He has trained more than 100,000 sales people in hundreds of different industry niches, working with businesses as diverse as Nike, Adecco, AXA, Geopost, Gallagher Insurance, Marks and Spencer and Philips.
In the last twenty years alone, Stephen has personally closed more than £50million ($65million) of deals. Not his businesses and sales teams, him personally.
Just after the 2008 financial crisis he founded, built and sold an executive search recruitment firm specialising in the insurance market.
Stephen has taken full advantage of the freedom his profession allows, and has lived in London, Marbella, Spain, and Florence, Italy, moving back to the UK just before lockdown.
He now lives in Yorkshire in an 18th century cottage overlooking the Yorkshire Dales. And yes, he misses the sunshine and warm days!
